About ArabTrans
ArabTrans works in Microsoft Windows with Arabic support, version 3.1 or later.
You can enter English text from the keyboard, disk or scanner.
You will then see the original English alongside its Arabic translation on a split screen. Thus, almost instantaneously, you will get a quick overview of the Arabic text without experiencing the delay associated with manual translation. It is there before you, ready for you to work on as you choose.
Saves hours
The time saved in the initial translation stage means that what might have taken hours now takes only seconds. For example, manual translation of 1500 words of English narrative text could take an experienced translator up to about 3 hours. ArabTrans would take about 15 seconds on a reasonably fast PC. Add another half-hour for the translator to fine-tune the Arabic text, and the saving in total translation time is enormous.
Improved quality
The daily target for a professional translator is usually between 2,500 and 3,000 words.
ArabTrans will do this in seconds. It therefore leaves the translator much more time to think more carefully about the translation. This can only improve the quality of the finished translation.
260,000-word dictionary
ArabTrans gives you the facility to introduce or change words as you wish. Using the built-in 260,000 word dictionary, you can select alternative Arabic meanings.
If, by any chance, the meaning you want is not in the dictionary, you can enter the new word yourself and it will be retained permanently. You will also be able to change phraseology and syntax to suit the required style.
ArabTrans is not a substitute for the translator's art. It is a tool that will enable translators to produce work more quickly with less labour and at less cost.
'English' English or 'American' English?
The standard ArabTrans program is written for 'English' English, but we can supply you with a separate edition, written to recognise 'American' English spellings.
Special vocabulary modules
As we develop and improve ArabTrans, we will introduce additional modules with vocabularies for specialised subjects such as economics, politics and scientific subjects.
Ready for typesetting
The translated Arabic text is ready for typesetting, merely be inserting typesetting instructions. No further keyboarding is necessary. You can output in any font that is in your system.
Technical requirements
ArabTrans runs under Windows 3.1 and above with Arabic support, or under Windows for Workgroups 3.11 with Arabic support. It will run on any hardware platform supporting these operating systems, but translation times benefit from a faster processor.
