Hebrew Basic (FSI)

This course is designed to teach the learner to speak and read modern Hebrew, the ordinary, informal speech of educated native Israelis. It is not intended as a text for the study of the Old Testament or other Hebrew literature.

The course starts by training the learner in the sounds and pronunciation of Hebrew. From the start the Hebrew spelling is placed alongside written transcriptions designed to help the learner to listen. In subsequent lessons instruction incorporates guided imitation, repetition, memorization, pattern and response drills, and conversation. Throughout the course the emphasis is on unaccented, conversational spoken Hebrew, although reading and writing skills are acquired as study progresses. The text includes a 15 pages glossary and a section on the Hebrew alphabet.

FSI Hebrew Basic Course: 24 cassettes ( 24hr.) and 552-page text.
