Cultural Contributions of Immigrants to

North America


Each of these video program takes a special look inside the life of a family from 14 different cultural groups, meeting three generations of family members who share memories of their country of origin and their motivations for journeying to North America. Younger family members explore the importance of cultural identity, how it is maintained, and how it changes.

In interviews, leading historians examine the impact of each ethnic group on the growth of the U.S. and Canada and the contributions made by individuals from each group. They also comment on contemporary immigration policies and their effect on new groups of people emigrating today. Each video is 30 minutes.
