Dashes is the only hyphenation DA for the Mac. It is over 99% accurate, hyphenates about 200 words per second, with a size averaging about 9K per language. Dashes supports Apple, Adobe, Casady and Greene, glps, Linguist's Software and other fonts in 21 languages.
Purpose
If you lay out a page in many languages, or in font families other than Apple, or languages other than English then you generally have to do the hyphenation by hand or you have to buy customized software. Dashes does this hyphenation automatically. It is called up from within a processor or desktop publishing prograand inserts discretionary hyphen throughout selected text.
Accuracy
In all of the languages offered, Dashes is over 99% accurate against our word lists of 92,000 to 480,000 words. According to these lists, it inserts over 98.5% of the acceptable hyphens. Proper nouns and other unusual words can be entered into a user exception dictionary. Dashes features an algorithm to break compound words in the Germanic languages.

You can install the following languages into the DA: Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (British and American), Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian (Nynorsk and Bokmal), Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish and Turkish. Now available: Bulgarian, Lithuanian, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian and Ukrainian.
Compatible Programs
The Dashes DA can be used together with Design Studio, MacWrite II, Microsoft Word, Nisus, RagTime, Ready,Set,Go, PageMaker, Quark XPress and WriteNow among others. Other hyphenation installers are available specifically for: Quark XPress, RagTime, Ready,Set,Go and XYWrite.
