BI-DIRECTIONAL TEXT ENTRY

The Left-to-Right/Right-to-Left arrow which controls the main writing direction in the Text box: just click on the arrow to change the direction and position of the cursor (and any existing text) to the Right or to the Left of the Text box.

FONT POP-UP MENUS

In Adobe Photoshop 4.0 ME, two pop-up menus, instead of one, allow you to choose separately which font you prefer for the Roman text (English, French, etc.), and one for the non-Roman text (Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, etc.) depending on the scripts installed in your MacOS.

The upper pop-up menu displays all the Roman fonts from the Fonts folder of your System folder. The lower pop-up menu shows all the non-Roman fonts from the Fonts folder of your System folder. Under a Hebrew MacOS --for example-- the Hebrew fonts are displayed in this lower menu, together with other non-Roman fonts if you have installed other non-Roman scripts on your computer, using the Apple Language Kits (Arabic Language Kit, Cyrillic Language Kit, Japanese Language Kit, Chinese Language Kit, etc.). This allows you to choose separately the font for the Hebrew text and for the English text, when they are mixed, so that they match accordingly to your taste.

FEATHERS OF ABOBE PHOTOSHOP 4.0 ME

New Adjustment Layers.

Adjustment layers will do for color and special effects what layers did for composition --allowing you to experiment with Levels, Curves, Color Balance, Brightness/ontrast, Hue/Saturation, Selective Color, Invert, Threshold, and Posterize options without affecting your original pixels. Adjustments Layers work like dynamic masks, so you can repeatedly move, hide modify, or delete an adjustment layer. Brush changes on or off simply by painting on an adjustment layer.

Custom multicolor gradients.
Use the Gradient tool to create dazzling linear and radial blends with multiple colors and varying levels of opacity. Save any number of custom, multicolor gradient designs to use again and to share them with others.

Free Transform.

This function lets you scale, rotate, skew, move, and add perspective to a selected area-in a single step-maintaining greater image fidelity.

48 additional artistic filters.

These plug-in filters simulate traditional media, such as watercolor, pastels, and charcoal-based on your own photographic images. And each filter provides a dynamic preview.

New Actions Palette.
Now you can define and record a sequence of editing steps and file conversion operations as an Action. Use the Action palette for one-button access to special effects, or to patch-process a folder full of files unattended, giving you more time for other tasks.

Guides and Grids.

Enjoy easier alignment and layout of elements with definable Guides and Grids. You can pull guides from the rulers to place precise horizontal and vertical lines to which you can snap tool operations. And Grids create a pattern of snap-to-points across an entire image.

Welcome to Navigator.

Save time instantly zooming to a specific area of an image with the new Navigator. Continuously zoom levels from 0.13% to 1600% are adjustable on-the-fly with a slider control or more precisely using numeric entry in the status bar. Plus, other program enhancements let you display high resolution images faster, with lower RAM requirements.

Web file formats.

There are a lot more new features for you to experience in Adobe PhotoShop 4.0, from support to new Web file formats and direct World Wide Web access to crisp, updated look and feel of the interface, which will be shared by Adobe's entire cross-platform family of graphics products. PhotoShop 4.0 supports three new Web file formats, PGN, JPEG and PDF, in addition to GIF files.
