Al - Maqam This CD-ROM is an introduction to the Arabic classical music. It teaches you about Fan Al-Maqamat as well as the Arabic musical ladder. It has 6 main topics including an introduction and a historical background. The topics also include a section about musical instruments with their historical background.
Each instrument
is featured with several pictures as well as some musical clips. Instruments
include Al-Oud, Al-Kanoun and so on.
Other topics analyze many musical pieces by commenting on each section of the music while it is playing in the background.
The Art of Maqam flourished in the Abbasid era and revived in the Arab renaissance period through the school of Abdo al-Hamouli(1842-1901) in Egypt. The author of this piece is Dr. Nidaa Abu Mrad who dedicated his life and career to this music.
