WinORFO is designed for the discerning Russian writer who wants spelling, grammar checking, hyphenation tools and a Russian thesaurus available from Windows applications, accessible by simple dialog boxes and function commands of your favorite word processing program. Its Russian proofing tools do not interfere with existing editing and proofing tools for English, so the user can type and view both English and Russian text on the same page of a document and use the proofing tools for each language. WinORFO supports your favorite applications, including MS Word 7.0, Excel 7.0, MS Access 7.0, MS PowerPoint 7.0, MS Exchange 4.0, Lotus AmiPro, Lotus 1-2-3 4.0, and many more popular office applications.

WinORFO's Spelling & Grammar Checker dictionary contains 240, 000 Russian words (or a total of 4,000,000 different forms of Russian words). It is made up of a wide range of commonly-used literary terms, archaic words, scientific and technical vocabulary, geographic names, and Russian personal names, and surnames.

WinORFO's Spellchecker identifies errors of the following types:

• Unknown words
• Names containing upper and lower case letters
• Complex words with hyphen incorrectly concorded
• Abbreviations
• Russian words containing Latin characters
• Mix of letters with numbers
• Exceptionally long words (over 30 characters)
• Two or more identical adjacent words.

ORFO has a unique feature: adding words and all of their forms to the dictionary. Russian words have numerous forms, from 12 for nouns to a few dozens for verbs.

ORFO automatically determines how a particular word changes and adds it with all of its forms to the dictionary. this feature saves the user a lot of time and helps to avoid mistakes in word formations.

The WinORFO Grammar And Style Checker supports text verification against 40 groups of Grammar rules and three styles: official, business, and informal. It provides explanations in Russian and such statistical data as word count, text complexity level, etc.

The WinORFO Thesaurus is based on the Dictionary of Russian Synonyms by A. P. Evgenyeva and on the Dictionary of Synonyms of Russian Language by Z. E. Aleksandrova, and other Russian language dictionaries. Thesaurus provides the user with an access to approximately 60,000 Russian words and phrases, which form 10,000 synonymic groups (more than 30,000 words and phrases), with 3,500 antonyms and with 14,000 word stems (about 20,000 related words). WinORFO thesaurus has two unique features:

It recognizes Russian words irrespective of their form in the text

For any given word, the thesaurus displays its synonyms and antonyms in the same form and tense as the initial word.

With WinORFO Hyphenation you'll be able to reduce the ragged appearance of unjustified margins and fit more text onto the page while typing in Russian. The Hyphenation module of WinORFO is an intelligent program which utilizes not only formal Russian hyphenation rules, but also the program's special dictionaries. Special feature! WinORFO Hyphenation allows the user to select either "literary" or "newspaper" type of hyphenation. A special Macro is included to enable transfer of Russian text from MS Word 7.0 to a publishing system or to another word processing program lacking Russian hyphenation feature.
