KanjiKit Demo Instructions
Complete documentation for the use of KanjiKit is provided with the full version after ordering. The KanjiKit trial version has most of the functions of the full version, but does NOT include the TrueType font. So, don't be suprised when the printout or display is jagged. We provided this so you can test with your applications if you wish. The full version comes with Mincho & Gothic TrueType fonts and the OpenPost and KanVert utilities. The following are some brief instructions to help you work with the KanjiKit Demo 45 day trial version. After downloading the demo to a temporary directory, you will find a file named setupkit.exe on your hard drive. Locate this file in the File Manager or Explorer and double-click to start the installation. The install program will then copy files to the c:\kanjikit directory and create icons to start the program. Once you input your User ID, you are ready to use Japanese in your English applications.
Switching between English and Japanese:
Press Ctrl+Spacebar to activate KanjiKit for Japanese input. Japanese can
be typed in the open toolbar and will be inserted into the application
you are working with. To switch back to English input, press Ctrl+Spacebar
once again. Remember, the cursor must be blinking in your application in
order for the Japanese text to appear. Also, please select the Japanese
font from the font bar of your application for best results.

Typing in Japanese:
After pressing Ctrl+Spacebar, you can type in Japanese using the Romaji
Input Method. For example, type konnnichiha for ‚±‚ñ‚É‚¿‚Í.
To convert to Kanji, press the Spacebar. If the Kanji that you are looking
for isn't shown, press the Spacebar once again and further choices will
appear. If you wish to convert from Hiragana to Katakana, instead of pressing
the Spacebar, press F7. Press Enter to send the Japanese to your application.

Switching between Shift-JIS and JIS input:
When using KanjiKit to enter Japanese text into your English applications,
we recommend using Shift-JIS. When sending Email over the Internet, JIS
is recommended. To switch between Shift-JIS and JIS, click on the Eng button
found on the KanjiKit tool bar. This will open the IME Configuration box.
Under the Options tab, you can choose between Shift-JIS and JIS. Then click
Close for the change to take effect. KanjiKit is set to S-JIS as the default
after downloading. Extra spaces before and after input is a characteristic
of JIS input, but Shift-JIS will not have those spaces.
EUC input mode:
There is also another input method available called EUC. This input
mode is based on the Japanese Unix character set. EUC input mode is useful
with some applications that are not able to display the Japanese characters
when using S-JIS or JIS mode. Just click on the S-JIS button, change to
EUC and press CTRL+Spacebar to input in EUC Mode. It will look the same
on the screen as S-JIS, but the internal code that is used to display the
text will be different.
Viewing Japanese web pages:
Simply have KanjiKit activated. Some pages were constructed using Japanese
Unix (EUC) code. To view these pages, click on the S-JIS button on the
KanjiKit toolbar, then choose EUC.
Closing KanjiKit:
Click on the large X found on the KanjiKit tool bar.
Differences between Demo and Full version:
This demo version is different from the full version in two ways. 1.
The full version will contain detailed instructions in English and Japanese
for using KanjiKit. 2. The full version will contain two Japanese
TrueType fonts (Mincho and Gothic) instead of the jagged bitmap font in
the demo.
