Komputerowy Slownik Jezyka Polskiego PWN

Recently completed project brings the Polish language

into 21st century medium

Description:

PWN's Scientific Publications' first multimedia book - three volumes of the Polish Language Dictionary and the Dictionary of Foreign Terms on one CD are now available.
The dictionary is an indespensiblke tool for writers and editors, not to mention translators. It should also prove very useful for home use. It is the largest compedium of contemporary Polish. Contains 80,000 entries including general and specialist vocabulary. It is a prescriptive dictionary, meaning that it employs linguistic criteria of correctness in settling even the most detailed vocabulary problems. Dictionaries of foreign terms record and define difficult words - which are rarely listed by standard language dictionaries, such as cheironomy, muezzin or chiton. For severals translations, users will find a handy built-in mechanism for morphological analyses. All those unable to master Polish declination can find the infinitive or nominative by typing in any form of the verb or the noun.

The dictionary can be used in Word or WordPerfect for Windows. It simply adds its icon to those word processors. When editing a text, all the users have to do in order to obtain correct infinitives is to throw declined verbs into an icon.

Almost all definition elements are accessible by clicking the mouse. Users have to point to desired words and click to use suggested abbreviations or switch to other entries. Users can switch on or off options demonstrating examples, phraseological connections and proverbs. They casn also use bookmarks and add their own comments. The two dictionaries can be used separately or together as a universal, unique dictionary of the Polish language.

On English version of Windows there is no problem with obtaining Polish characters on screen, unfortunatelly the product does not support Zecer keyboard driver.
