Trans-Linc is a multilingual, multidirectional translation tool, which allows you to translate words or expressions from and to any language with the click of a button. It is NOT a document translator, but a replacement for translation dictionaries and conjugation books.Trans-Linc is the perfect tool for students, translators, international companies, and anyone that has an interest in languages. It is the perfect translation assistant, and can also function as a tutor to improve your language skills.
MULTIDIRECTIONAL TRANSLATION
Instead of the traditional bi-directional format we usually see in linguistic software, Trans-Linc allows complete interchange ability among different dictionaries. The data base for each language contains more than 40,000 entry words, 60,000 meanings, and 130,000 translations. After entering a word, you will get a list of translations, separated according to meaning and part of speech. Information on word-usage and idiomatic expressions are also provided. For example, when translating into Dutch, words or expressions used only in Belgium are noted as such.
The languages available in version 1.2 are:
US English, UK English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, Danish, and Portuguese. The interface can be switched to any of these languages, and the help system will change accordingly.
Future releases will include Russian, Turkish, Japanese, and Chinese.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Besides functioning as a dictionary, Trans-Linc offers an advanced verbal conjugator, with up to12,000 verbs per language, and click-of-the-mouse instant conjugation in any tense or form, including reflexives, irregular, and defective verbs. A spelling checker is activated when an entered word is not recognized, offering a list of alternatives. If a form that is not in the dictionary is entered (i.e.: plural or feminine forms of a noun or adjective, or conjugated verbs), the analyzer will find the root of that word, allowing you to enter the correct form for translation. The wild card search allows you, along with the spelling checker, to find the correct spelling or accentuation of words (a very useful feature for non-native speakers of French, for example). Finally, on the rare occasion a particular word is not found, a separate user dictionary is included, which allows complete customization of the data base. All user-entered words or expressions will be recognizable at any time when displayed on the screen. In the Windows version, they are preceded by a bullet, and in the Macintosh version they are italicized.
MACINTOSH AND WINDOWS VERSIONS
The basic package includes three languages: US or UK English, and two languages of your choice. Additional languages may be purchased separately. Macintosh Requirements are a Mac Plus or better, 4 MB of hard disk space for three languages (each language averages 1.3 MB), 356K of available RAM, and Mac OS 6.0.3 or later. System 7.1 is strongly recommended. Windows Requirements are a 286 or better Wintel compatible, 4 MB of hard disk space for three languages (each language averages 1.3 MB), 256K of available RAM, and MS Windows 3.1 or greater. Trans-Linc v1.2 is Windows95 compatible.
