Unity for Windows
The most extensive range of languages and keyboard options
in the first Unicode-enabled communications program, with full 7-bit and
8-bit multilingual support now.
Unity for Windows is a communications program that
enables a unilingual multi-user system to become truly multilingual. In
7, 8 or 16-bit environments, this full-featured terminal emulation and
connectivity tool is the answer to the problem of handling multiple languages
on computer systems today and tomorrow.
Language
Support
Unity for Windows provides solutions for users
around the world, supporting a wide range of code pages and keyboard layouts
for languages including all of the Latin-based languages of Western, Eastern
and Northern Europe, Greek and Turkish, as well as the Cyrillic-based languages.
Multilingual Capabilities and
Unicode Support
- Unity for Windows is uniquely capable of handling
any combination of languages across multiple code pages at the same time.
With the introduction of Unicode support, Unity for Windows will
also provide the transition from multilingual computing now to multilingual
computing in the future.
- Any multilingual text handled at the host can be downloaded,
edited and stored on the PC as multilingual text. Data can be converted
from the PC code page to the host code page and back again, even when that
data is encoded using different formats in 7, 8 or 16-bit modes!
- Language handling in Unity for Windows is totally
transparent to the application software. This allows standard unilingual
applications to hold and display data correctly in any language or combination
of languages, without modification to the software being used.
Full-Featured
Communications Program
- As a Windows application Unity includes superb
interactivity features which allow for drag-and-drop FTP file transfers
and elegant mouse-based interactivity, while running traditional character-based
applications. Unity enables each host session to run in a separate
window and supports convenient cut-and-paste operations which allow data
to be moved between simultaneously running host and MS-Windows applications.
- Unity for Windows provides PC connectivity to
hosts running UNIX or VMS in any language or combination of languages.
It has rich networking capabilities and includes a Windows Sockets compliant
TCP/IP protocol suite.
- A complete interactive HELP system is always available
as an on-line reference guide. All of the features and actions of the program
are described with clear concise descriptive text.
- The Unity menu system complies with standard MS-Windows
interactivity allowing even novice operators to get started easily.
Requirements
- Microsoft WindowsTM version 3.1 or higher
- LotusTM cc:Mail version 2.0 or higher
- LotusTM SMTPLink version 2.0 or higher
More
on Unity(TM ) for Windows
Rich Network Support
- Connections may be established over TCP/IP networks,
DEC LAT networks, via modem or with direct RS-232 serial connections. Unity
can run over existing Ethernet or Token Ring networks and can interact
with third party implementations of TCP/IP.
Multilingual Electronic Mail
- With the unique code page switching capabilities, users
can bypass the English bias of electronic mail networks, and use them in
other languages!
Enhanced Mouse Support
- Traditional character-based applications can now be controlled
using mouse actions. Frequently used actions such as language switches
or file transfers may now be initiated on screen using the mouse.
Multilingual Capabilities on existing 7 and 8-bit systems
- With Unity for Windows, multilingual capabilities on
a unilingual host system are finally available. Any language or combination
of languages can be handled without modification to the host software being
used.
True Language Support
- Languages are defined as combinations of keyboards and
character sets. Using Unity, as you change the language in use, the keyboard
mapping and the character set automatically switch to correspond to that
selected language.
