FAQ For WorldWrite

Q: "I already have a word processor. Why should I buy yours?"

A: Quite simply because WorldWrite is better! Not only is WorldWrite a quicker and more efficient word processor, it has many talents that the sluggish alternatives currently on the market do not. Even with Full WYSIWYG Editing and a plethora of powerful features, WorldWrite requires much less RAM and hard disk space. Whether working with text-only documents, or documents that combine text, graphics, columns, and multiple languages and directions, WorldWrite can handle it. WorldWrite is Power Macintosh native and works with AppleGuide, PowerTalk, true Drag and Drop, and Quickdraw GX printing. WorldWrite also does right-to-left and vertical text. It does many things the competition can't even touch!

Q: "Is there a demo I can try first?"

A: There certainly is. The demo is free of charge and available by downloading it from the web. The Download Page is the place to go for that task. For information on how and what is available on that page, see the Downloads page.

Q: "What languages does WorldWrite support?"

A: WorldWrite 3.0 is WorldScript savvy and is compatible with all of the Apple Language Kits. But not only is WorldWrite compatible, it has a list of supported features that other word processors do not. WorldWrite is the leader when it comes to things like right-to-left and vertical text. And other things such as multi-script find and change and style sheets make WorldWrite the leader in multi script word processing. WorldWrite works very will with any of the language kits from Apple. Whether it's Japanese, Chinese, Cyrillic, Hebrew and Arabic or Persian, WorldWrite gives you the best support you can get in a word processor. Please look forward to the release of the Korean and Indian language kits by Apple in the very near future. WorldWrite will also run on virtually any internationally localized version of Apple's Macintosh Operating System. For more information on all language kits and other products click here.

Q: "How much RAM and hard drive space does it take?"

A: WorldWrite takes up considerably less RAM and hard drive space than the competition. The application itself takes only 1.9MB for 68K machines and 2.8MB of hard drive space for PPC. And the program runs comfortably on 3MB of RAM (a little less for 68K and more for PPC when virtual memory is turned off). Certainly much less than the competition. The full installation of the WorldWrite program with spelling dictionary, thesaurus, WorldWrite Guide, and help files is 7MB total! See table below for additional information.

Minimum Recommended
Mac Plus or better Mac Plus or better
System 7.1 or higher System 7.1 or higher
1.9MB hard drive space 7MB hard drive space
2MB RAM 3MB RAM

Q: "What about importing and exporting files from different programs?"

A: WorldWrite comes with the Claris XTND system and has numerous XTND translators for products like Microsoft Word, WordPerfect and MacWrite. WorldWrite also supports Macintosh Easy Open, thus enabling the use of filters from companies like DataViz for newer versions of MS Word and WordPerfect. WorldWrite also ships with an export filter for QuarkXPress. Now exporting to full page layout programs has never been easier!

Q: "Will I be able to run WorldWrite on my 680X0 machine?"

A: Absolutely! WorldWrite has a minimum system requirement of 7.1 or higher and requires a minimum of 1.2MB of memory to run. WorldWrite also has a minimum requirement of a Mac Plus or better which means that it will run on most machines.

Q: "Do you make a Windows version?"

A: WorldWrite is available for Macintosh only. WorldSoft is committed to being the Apple technology leader. As such, OpenDoc will be a large focal point for the company. Apple's OpenDoc technology will make cross platform compatibility and cross platform software development much easier, thus helping software developers make more software available in much less time than in the past. This will make software cheaper and of a much better quality. And users are the ones who will benefit from this. WorldSoft intends to be a part of this exciting movement towards component software and eventually having software that runs on multiple platforms like Windows.

Q: "What is a dongle anyway?"

A: A dongle is a hardware piece which attaches to your keyboard. It is required for certain software to run and is to inhibit software piracy. Many programs that are sold internationally require a dongle due to the amount of software piracy abroad. Previous versions of WorldWrite were only sold outside of the US and did require a dongle. WorldWrite 3.0 does not require a dongle even though some competitor's products still do.
