INTRODUCING XLBR/2.1
- The newest version of XLBR Chinese word processor for Macintosh
XiaLiBaRen for Macintosh" (XLBR) is both a language processor and a communications tool for the Macintosh computers.XLBR can run directly under and ordinary English operating system without any additional hardware or software.
"XLBR for Macintosh" enables a user to avoid all the above complications with "Chinese Language Kits. To write chinese with the Macintosh, only a single package of XLBR is enough. Once XLBR is installed, it can run immediately under the available standard English operating system. XLBR fits into a wide range a English systems, such as systems 6.0.7, 6.0.8, 7.0, 7.1, and the more recent 7.5 As for different computers, XLBR can be used in the earliest computer like MacPlus, MacSE, or to the newest PowerBook, Centris, Quadra and PowerMac, etc.
Another advantage with XLBR is it's simple input method. Anyone who is familiar with PinYin of ZhuYin can use XLBR, since XLBR's input method is based on the pronunciation of either PinYin or ZhuYin. The input can be a single character or a word. Characters or word. Characters or words which have been typed in previously on the screen don't need to be retyped. With the command (ae) key held down, clicking the mouse on any existing characters and words can be stored in a user's private library so that they can be re-used at any time.
"XLBR for Macintosh" also provides page setup tools to layout a portrait page or landscape, to make tables, and to export the Chinese characters on the screen as a picture to other English software.
More over, the 64x64 bitmap font library covers four kinds of fonts (Song, FangSong, Kai and Hei) in both simplified and traditional writing styles. So altogether there are eight options (four fonts in simplified and four font in traditional style) for a user to choose from . The simplified and traditional writing styles are exchangeable.
The NEWMADE program in XLBR is a character-making program for those seldom used characters. With this program a seldom used character can be created by yourself, or a complicated character can be pieced together with the odds and ends of the available character parts.
The newest version -- XLBR/2.1 has maintained the above characteristics. In addition to that, based on the more-than-two-year feedback, XLBR/2.1 has enhanced it's capabilities by the new features as follows:
I. Input Chinese
XLBR/2.1 newly includes "LianXiang" and "Computer Self Training" functions. "Lianxiang" input function translates a PinYin sentence into a sentence of Chinese characters . For an example, after you input a PinYin sentence such as "womenyinggaishiyongdiannaoxiezhongwen", hit the space bar. A corresponding Chinese sentence will appear on the screen. This enhances input speed to a large scale. The Computer Self Training function locates the frequently used character or word to the beginning of the "Character Board", which also helps to speed up the input operation.
XLBR/2.1 has also well improved the former "User's Library" function. Now during text writing, a frequently used character may be saved into or retrieved from this library by a very simple command.
II. Compatibility
XLBR/2.1 is compatible with "Chines Language Kit" and "Chinese Talk". Their True Type font can now be used in XLBR/2.1. In addition, both simplified and traditional writing styles can be presented ar the same article.
III. Page Setup
Automatic page setup functions enable a beginner to choose a desired page layout format by just clicking the button from many options like portrait, landscape, single column, double column, etc. XLBR will automatically assign the title and text to certain places an a blank page with corresponding parameters of size and alignment. Flexible print preview functions can let you preview contents from page 1 to page 8 at the same time; or preview a particular page; or enlarge a page, etc. Pictures can be imported into your Chinese text. The location of the imported picture, it's shape and size may be adjusted freely according to you specific needs
IV. Other New Functions
A. Compared with the old versions, the new printing method increases it's speed more than twice.
B. The multiple-functions of exploring can transfer not only 16x16 bitmap low-quality character font ,but also the high quality font of 64x64 for printing purposes. A sentence or a full page of Chines with page setup information can be saved into a file, and later be read by any English software.
C. Automatic label-making function prints out all sizes of labels in both Chinese and English.
D. Table-making function draws even horizontal and vertical lines tailored to you needs.
E. The additional character library has been replenished with over 100 regular Chinese characters in different fonts.
F.The repairing function checks and repairs the damaged Chinese text caused hardware failure.
G.As a communications tool, XLBR/2.1 can also be used for the Chinese E-mail on Internet.
V. XLBR/2.1 Offers Three Different Versions
*Basic Version: Equipped with Song font in both simplified and traditional writing styles. Basic Version is best for Chinese beginners, or people who have simple writing tasks, such as writing a short letter in Chinese.
*Standard Version: 64x64 Song font library in both simplified and traditional writing styles are offer in this version. Standard Version is best for paper work in the office, school and family.
*Advanced Version: Has the richest fonts in XLBR, such as 64x64 Son, FangSong, Kai, and Hei in both simplified and traditional styles. It is best for advertisements, documentation and newsletters, etc.
